We appreciate that you are affiliating with Community Synagogue of Rye, knowing that there are other choices.

Below are the synagogue’s policies regarding affiliation/membership. We encourage you to contact us with any questions you may have. We want you to stay involved and value your commitment to ensuring our Jewish community continues to flourish.

Finances should never be the reason not to be a part of the CSR community. We extend assistance to congregants when needed. Now, more than ever, it is important for you and your family to remain a part of a caring community. Information is available by contacting Glynis Conyer, Executive Director.

The options available for payments are electronic via ShulCloud (our member database) by echeck, monthly ACH or VISA/Mastercard/AMEX (for which there is a 3% convenience fee), or via check or appreciated securities. The annual operating cost per household is approximately $4,600. The generosity of voluntary contributions and commitments from the larger congregational community provide the synagogue with vital funds.

You will receive an electronic statement from info@comsynrye.org (please make sure to check your spam folder). Your Annual Commitment Statement reflects the same membership category as last year. If you are able, we hope that you will consider moving to a special donor category. If you wish to change your category please contact Glynis Conyer.

Half of the Annual Commitment is due by August 15, 2023 (prior to the High Holy Days) and the balance is due by December 31, 2023.

Security Fee: Each household is assessed a $190. If you are able to contribute more to offset this cost, please earmark additional funds for security.

Associate: Congregants who have moved far enough away from the local area of the synagogue that it would preclude them from returning for services on a regular basis, congregants who do not reside locally (within 100 miles) for more than six months a year, and/or have joined another synagogue are eligible to affiliate in this category. Lifecycle events and High Holy Day badges are additional.

The Voluntary Commitment Option: This option allows specific households to make an annual contribution that represents the value they place on their relationship to Community Synagogue of Rye while honoring their own financial capacity. For some, the operating level of $4,600 may be beyond their means and they may select a lower commitment, while others may elect a higher commitment.

The Voluntary Commitment Option for affiliation is primarily for three groups:

congregants over the age of 80
individuals or couples both under 35 years ofage
parents with all children under 3rd grade and not enrolled in the Early Childhood Center

Building Fund: Contributions to the Building Fund, a board restricted fund, are used for capital improvements and extraordinary repairs. For those who affiliate as of July 1, 2023, there is a one‐time charge payable over five years of $3,000 per family and $1,500 for an individual. Building Fund fees are deferred for families whose oldest child has not yet started 3rd grade.

High Holy Days: All services will take place at CSR this year, or in close proximity. Services for young children and family services will be at Midland School, with access from the CSR playground.

To make a payment: you will receive an email with a link to ShulCloud, our membership database, and can choose to pay by credit card, echeck or over a period of time. Of course, you can also send a check.

ARZA (Association of Reform Zionists of America Membership) Your contribution of $50 annually will support a vibrant Reform/Progressive Jewish community in Israel.

Women of CSR: Your contribution of $72 will support women in our own community, our country and worldwide,

Tzedakah Fund: write in $36 (or more) to assist those who reach out to Community Synagogue of Rye for help in repairing our world. We are often approached by our congregants to give tzedakah to organizations with which they are involved. We rely on your tzedakah for our own operations and want to be able to contribute tzedakah to others.

B’ruchim Ha’ba’im! Welcome!

Imagine entering a synagogue where senior citizens sit in one area reading to children from the early childhood center while nearby, adults of various ages study Talmud. Across the hall, another group wrestles with sacred texts, gleaning meaning for today’s challenging world. Upstairs in the teen lounge, a group of high schoolers build leadership skills and find purpose as they plot their next social action project. In his study, the Rabbi comforts a grieving family. Next door, the Cantor helps

another family plan a baby naming.

This is not an imaginary synagogue. This is Community Synagogue of

Rye. Here the sanctuary is filled with spirit, song and healing and the congregation buzzes with the excitement and joy that Judaism has the potential to bring forth.

The founders of this synagogue had wonderful foresight. Since its inception in 1948, Community Synagogue of Rye has become a communal gathering place, a spiritual home, and a learning center for more than 400 families. We are a purpose driven congregation. Our vision reminds us always to seek to be a center for spiritual transformation; to foster the creation of sacred relationships; and to give people the tools and resources to be God's partner in healing the world.

Ours is a magnificent community, one that seeks to grow and deepen people’s connections to Judaism while making it compelling, relevant, accessible, challenging, joyful, comforting and inclusive and to inspire a life that is pure and sacred.

Life is a journey filled with possibility, surprise, and enchantment. This journey can be enriched through that great gift we call Judaism. Join us. Together we will build and share in the bright future that lies ahead.

Thank you for choosing to affiliate with Community Synagogue of Rye.

We at CSR are so proud to be a strong, caring, and vibrant community. This is in large part due to the unwavering dedication of our clergy, educators, professional staff, lay leaders, and you – our congregants.

It is the season to renew this commitment to one another. We appreciate your choice to partner with us. By doing so, you continue to call us your spiritual home and ensure an enduring Jewish presence in Rye.

We remain committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for all while also making certain to uphold the religious, educational, programmatic, and spiritual needs of our families.

Our Board of Trustees has prepared a responsible budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year. We are pleased to share with you a visual representation of our revenue and expenses, which highlights our mission and vision. You will see that the actual annual operating cost per family exceeds $4600, yet the adult household commitment is $3,850. Being sensitive to the trying financial times we are facing, this reflects a modest increase in the affiliation cost.

Thus, we ask, if you are able, to consider increasing your level of giving to Supporter, Sustainer, President’s or Rabbi’s Circles. We are always grateful for any additional contributions you choose to make. Your generosity will make a positive impact on the many CSR programs, study opportunities and worship experiences that we offer.

We are committed to making sure that finances are never a deterrent from affiliating with our congregation.
