Topic: The Jewish Global Citizen - Pursuing Justice in the 21st Century Ruth Messinger, president of the American Jewish World Service, will speak on the Parshat Noach. "Parshat Noach is a call to action, to commit ourselves to the work of bringing justice to those corners of the Earth that lack it, and to inspire the rest of our community to act hand-in-hand. The rainbow is not merely a symbol of God's covenant with humanity; it is a reminder of each individual's responsibility for ensuring the proliferation of justice in this world. May we all, one day, merit to not need that reminder." Inspired by the Jewish commitment to justice, American Jewish World Service works to realize human rights and end poverty in the developing world. Ruth is an activist internationally, currently sitting on the State Department's Religion and Foreign Policy Working Group and as co-chair of the Sub-Working Group on Social Justice. She has been honored by many national Jewish organizations and was named one of the world's most influential Jews and religious leaders by The Jewish Daily Forward,The Jerusalem Post and Huffington Post. |
