As you heard Rabbi Gropper speak about on Yom Kippur Morning, Community Synagogue of Rye is embarking upon a community conversation as we reflect on this ‘year like no other’ and the impact living with such uncertainty has had on us individually and collectively. The initiative is called CSRBaMidbar – Together in the Wilderness. After a year where we were all deprived of connection more than ever before, we want to create space for members of our congregation to connect with each other. In small groups over Zoom, we will have informal but meaningful conversations with other CSR members all trying to make sense of the events of this past year and a half.
The questions we will ask in the groups are:
You can choose to share your thoughts about all of these questions or only one or two. Led by a CSR member who has been trained to facilitate the discussion and another member designated to act as a Scribe to capture (anonymously) what people have to say, each group will be attended by a maximum of 9 CSR member participants per session.

The names of other CSR members who have already registered for a particular session are listed on the link above (along with the names of each Facilitator and Scribe).
After you register, you will receive a confirmation email including the Zoom link to join on the selected date and time. If the session you want to join is full, please add your name to the waitlist and we will arrange for additional sessions so that everyone who wants to can participate.
Telling our stories and listening to the stories of others is how we can move forward as a connected community. We know that this is going to be an important part of our collective start to the new year.

Rabbi Daniel Gropper, Senior Rabbi
Andi Hessekiel, Co-Chair
Rhonda Barnat, Co-Chair
The questions we will ask in the groups are:
- What challenges have you faced over the past year?
- What helped you get through the year?
- What have you learned, or what are you learning, about yourself that you want to carry forward?
- What can the synagogue do to support you as you move forward?
